President’s Message

2011-2012

Dear Colleagues,

It has been an eventful year already and I am remiss in getting this out.  Like all of you, our SBASP board members have been attempting to manage the ever increasing demands of our work days. They are also faithfully meeting monthly to consider ways we can serve and encourage all of you and each other. Two of our members have stepped out for a while to tend to their little ones.  While we miss their energy and insights, our enthusiastic new officers are hard at work.

As school psychologists, we know that nothing ever remains the same and our districts, sites and staff will be looking to us for problem solving and encouragement. This year, it seems that topics like mental health services, ADA 504 plan development, RTI, to name a few, will require the extra focus, time and attention on top of our other duties.  I’ve always said that I love the variety my profession brings to me each day. But I confess that there are days when I’d like to do the same thing at the same time for just a few hours!!

Please forgive me for taking this long to greet you all this year.  The last year and a half have been challenging for me as well.  I am deeply grateful that there are so many wonderful people in our field and especially in our SELPA who encourage me every day. I look forward to getting together with all of you at the upcoming conferences and gatherings.

Take care,

Jan Van Horn, MA, BICM
